Our Story
In June 2010, half a year following the most devastating earthquake in modern history, I found myself standing on heaps of rubble alongside our mission team. Our purpose was to assist in locating a missing granddaughter. After six days of tireless effort and the removal of more than 30 tons of rock and debris, all we uncovered was the faint outline of the home's foundation. It was a heart-wrenching realization. Surveying the landscape, I confronted a scene of hopelessness and heartbreak, where, just six months prior, over 275,000 lives had been claimed. In seconds, entire generations — brothers, mothers, sisters, grandparents — were lost.
Fast-forwarding through an additional 12 trips, my wife, Darla, and I felt a calling to adopt. However, this path was abruptly halted due to age restrictions, given that we were over 50. Undeterred, we turned to prayer and decided to bring two Haitian students to America. They would reside with us, and we would sponsor their education.
Now, in 2023, we are delighted to share the news that Lajoie Peterson of Haiti has successfully earned his Associate Degree in Business from North Texas Central College. Lajoie has since commenced his senior year at the University of North Texas, focusing on International Business. Our second Haitian student, Anne Calixte, is currently living with us and has gained acceptance into the College of Nursing at Tarleton State University, with studies commencing in the fall of 2021.
Today, we invite you to stand with us in supporting other young Haitians.
